Justice League

Green Lantern walked up towards the Guardians.

Star stands a bit behind GL and looks up at the little blue aliens up in their seats. The lot of them eye her then turn to Lantern. "You've brought an outsider here?" One says, calmly. "I would cite regulation, but I trust you have good reason."

"I do, this is Star-Girl a friend of mine from Earth and member of our Justice League. Her weapon is not dissimilar from our own rings and it is in need of repair. Is possible to fix it here?"

The parts of the staff are suddenly taken from Star's hands, kinetic ally summoned to one of the guardians. He then looks to her. "Where did you get this?"

Star's eyes dart around a bit. "I found it in a crater in the woods. Can...you fix it? It's been real useful, letting me help out wherever I could."

The Guardian stares at her for a moment in silence. He then turns back to GL. "We will see. And you've also brought the Golden Ring back. Why is this? The bearer has not died, has she?"

"No, but she would rather not use the ring currently." Green Lantern said.

The guardians look down on Lantern. "The guardians will hold a private council on these matters. You are dismissed until called back. Thank you."

"Understood." Green Lantern said with a nod and he turned around leaving the Guardians. "C'mon." He told Star-Girl.

"Right," Star says, following Lantern out. "So," she says later. "How did your ring choose you?"

"The last Green Lantern assigned to my sector recruited me as his replacement." He said walking out with her. "Nothing really special, how about you? How did you get into the hero business?"

"Dumb luck. I found this staff in the woods while I was out camping and got separated from my people. The belt, I got from some rando in a suit of armor after he saved my life. He dropped it, trying to get lost before I could thank him. No destiny or being chosen. Nothing as special as it looks."

"Sometimes it's just fate." Green Lantern smiled.

"Maybe," Star says, playing with her hair.

After a while, an alien Green Lantern finds the two. "The guardians will see you now."

"Thank you." Green Lantern said heading back to the Guardians with Star-Girl."

"Green Lantern, John Starks, and...'Star-Girl' of Earth, the Guardians have come to a decision. The Staff can be fixed. And it will be. But we see no reason to return it to you."

"What?!"

Green Lantern stepped forward. "What reason do you have to with hold it from her?"

"You misunderstand," the Guardian says. "We see no reason to return it because we'd like for her to look after the Gold Ring."

"Wha- ME?"

"Yes. The cosmic staff was an early attempt at a device that required absolute emotional control to master, simply without using any of the emotional energies themselves," another Guardian says. "Mogo sent it throughout the cosmos with no luck, so he tried for Earth. After all, five of the greatest Green Lanterns to exist had been human."

"But then catastrophe struck with the actual Gold Ring. Namely, an Orange Lantern discovered it...and we are all familiar with what that color represents. He was overpowering Lanterns in droves. Our best Lanterns were light years away. We had no choice but to send the ring out to prevent it from falling into his hands."

"It found the human, Angelica. It didn't choose her because it sensed worth. It chose her because she was there. Still, we foolishly allowed her to keep it. But you...you have mastered the Cosmic Staff, it seems."

The gold ring floats down in front of Star and she just stares at it.

Green Lantern looked over at Star-Girl. "Well then..."

"I...I guess I can't say no to somethin' like that," she stammers. "But...what're you gonna do with the staff?"

"Send it back to Earth with you. It is far too dangerous to keep it here on Oa. Too many forces would try to steal it from us here where there are only Green Lanterns, all with the same general foils. However, Earth has a Justice League. Diverse Protectors who have shown the universe, time and time again, that Earth is not to be trifled with."

Green Lantern nodded. "We'll keep it safe."

The guardians return the staff to Mercy. "Very good. You are dismissed," the foremost guardian says.

Claire walked into the temple of Athena looking around

"Alright, so I'm not really sure how the whole communicating with gods is supposed to go but if you're there maybe you could help me." Claire said looking up at a statue of Athena.

"Actually, I have this one other question," Mercy says to the Guardians.  "Superman said that Mongul was sold the abducted members of the Justice League 'Legally' where the Guardians are concerned.  What's that all about?"

The Guardians say nothing, merely looking down at the two Lanterns before them.


The clouds seems to part and shine down their light on Athena's shrine.

Green Lantern crossed his arms. "Yeah, I'd like an answer to that as well."

"...Lanterns, you are dismissed," the Guardian says.
