"You stupid, stupid son of a bitch! Do I have a round target spot on my back? No! So I would go and purchase yourself some goddam glasses! And I don't need an audience here, so back away unless you want to keep bothering me."

She removed her jacket throwing it to the ground, as her face and body began to glow red and flames could be seen emerging from under the skin, before lapping over her skin burning her blouse.

"Oh my!" Carrie said having seen the incident, "So tell me Charles... how do we deal with a school yard fight like this one?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Keegan removed her burnt blouse and stood in a sports singlet and jeans, with few scorch marks, "Expressing my opinion is not a terrorist action. You're looking at this from entirely the wrong perspective. I was making a statement. And the statement was that I was pissed off.
I mean... I have major fire power inside of me...enough to make this one burn for shooting me. Hell... why didn't I make him sacrifice himself on the alter of dignity and even the score. Maybe because I simply don't care. And there's the headline of my statement."
"He shot you because I told him to" Max said "If you want to see acts of terrorism you should have seen what I did last month to a stadium full of innocent people. It was bloody, savage, and merciless. You want to know a secret little rebel, that boy there has killed dozens of people for just being normal and he's not the only one at this school that can make that claim. If you really think you can touch him then give it a shot and pray that he's still got rubber bullets in those guns.
As for the 'statement' you just made with your little book burning and show of power here it's nothing new. I've heard many times from other kids your age. It means nothing to me, it barely rates when compared to what others have done before you. You want everyone to believe you are a big bad rebel when all you really are is a little pirrana in an ocean of sharks. If you want to make a real statement you would show up your teachers."
"Not yet" Charles said wanting to see how this played out. "Let Max take care of it, I'm sure he has a reason for this."
"sounds more to me like I fit in here quite well, that book burning is considered cool, look... I'm sorry but I'm not the sort to just roll over and lie down in a field of daisies. No offense to flowers, if I was the flower-loving type I'd like them.
Anyhow maybe the real blame should go to the ones who until now have been holding back on telling me that my mother was a villain that was killed by one of the xmen. You over there... Miss perfect- you claim all people can change then why wasnt the opportunity passed to my mother?
So please, enlighten me, as to why I should respect you lot when you'll be one of them one day?"
*her mother was a crazy villain that was about to burn herself ad the xmen. keegan heard only snippets of the conversation occurring between some of the xmen who raised her and spin her own version of events and she hates everything and everybody.not to mention she's just a teenager. She's worried though push enough and she could be kicked onto the streets where they could've left her as baby or they could've let her burn with her mother.*
"Actually no one thinks that was cool" Colt said "In fact most of the other students think you're an idiot for doing that. Me, I think it was uninspired. I mean book burning, come on couldn't you think of something orginal. People have been burning books since before the middle ages or something like that."
"Enough Colt" Max said "You seem to have the wrong impression about this school. We're not training X-Men here. If you want to be one of them that's your decission. My goal is to teach the next generation to be better. To show the normals of the world that those of us with powers are truly thier superiors in every way. If you just want to start fires and continue to be ignorant then you do not belong here and frankly I don't want you here."
(Last I heard about Sunstreak she was semi reformed and never had an encounter with the X-Men. I'm guessing all that happened sometime later. Does Keegan have any idea who Max is? He's not a student, he's old enough to be her father, former leader of a mutant terrorist group of which Colt and Brian were both members, that murdered hundreds of normal people and those mutants that sympathized with them. He is the farthest from an X-Man that there can be.)
*I mostly picked sunstreak due to the powers being connected but now I'm strongly considering it being a complete unknown and the fact that not many of the xmen even recall the occasion.*
Carrie stepped forward holding her hands up to try and squeeze into the conversation.
"burning a book seems like something that was done in frustration over something else. I just can't picture anyone burning a book simply because they don't like shakespeare so what did I do that made you annoyed?"
Keegan picked up her jacket and shook her head, "where do I begin? Miss you said that by applying ourselves and studying hard we can all be perfect people like you. How can you even say that when you have the most perfect of abilities? You can venture out into society. How could I work in an office when the first time the photocopier doesn't work and I lose my temper I set fire to he bloody thing?!
There is no Perfect world for freaks like us, and trying to make me see any differently wont work, however I'll behave... I might find you all annoying but at least you won't rob me, bash me or rape me."
Carrie swallowed a gulp, "who?"
"who... Oh miss wake up from your perfect world. If I cant stay here I literally become an orphan and go on welfare an that's the life that I will be loving when I graduate. So getting a certificate will be pointless when someone rips it or steals it, or when I'm scrubbing floors for $10 an hour."
"it doesnt have to be that way."
Keegan shook her head and walked past to head back inside, and Carrie turned to them both.
"alright, i apologize... I handled that poorly. I think the only one that could possibly get through to her is someone that's far from perfect."
(I'm a little confused by Keegan's responses to everything Max said and did. He slaps her across the face and instead of being shocked that a teacher would strike a student like that she goes on about the statement she made, he tells her that he and some of her fellow students are mass murders and that she isn't as tough and rebellious as she thinks she is- she goes on about rolling over and laying in a field of daisies and how no one told her about her mother. Colt calls her an idiot and Max pretty much tells her she's stupid and not wanted there and Carrie steps in out of nowhere to intervene. I thought she might be surprised to hear that someone like him was allowed to teach and shocked that violent students were allowed to remain at the school. Her responses instead seemed to be to a completely different conversation. Her responses seemed to be to a completely different conversation)
*Because even though she got slapped by Max, she can't return it because she could end up kicked out of the school, which isn't what she's out to achieve. She wants to get back at the boys, and she'll find a way when the teachers aren't around. And attacking Max, and the others won't really do her any pleasure when she was really pissed off with Carrie who directs the rage back onto herself where it belongs.*
I'm still a little confused. I get that there's nothing she could've done about being slapped or knowing that there are students at the school that have violent pasts but it still seems as if everything Max said went in one ear and got changed into whatever Keegan wanted to hear Max say and that is what she was responding to. I feel like Keegan had a speech that she'd been rehearsing for when she did have to explain herself to the teachers as to why she did and no matter what Max said or did that speech is what she was going to give. Doesn't matter that he was able to touch her with his bare hands when most people that do get burned, doesn't matter that he told a fellow student to attack her, doesn't matter that she was called a stupid idiot, doesn't matter that she was told that one of her instructers and some of her fellow classmate is a mass murdering racist terrorist, and it doesn't matter that she was told she's not wanted there; all she really cared about was making herself look like a rebel and complaining about not knowing her mother was a villian. You see why I'm confused her reactions to all of that is just so random and then Carrie stepping in when it wasn't neccessary for her to do so.
yes which leaves me with no idea how to respond. Do I have Max threaten Carrie for interferring, should Charles say something to both of them; Carrie never responded to Charles telling Carrie her problem was she was still trying to teach college students when she was dealing with highschool students.
no, don't worry about changing anything. Max was never going to punish her, he likes students that challenge thier teachers. If anything he would've offered to be her mentor. I think I might have come up with some respons to all that.
Charles looked over at Colt still standing there. "Cody don't you have a class to get too?"
"Name's Colt"
"Okay then Colt, get to class before I give you detention" Charles said watching the boy head off.
(what boys, Colt and Max? or all the boys in the school?)
The boys who had also came down to sticky beak left with Colt, leaving just Carrie and Charles.
"So what Max was saying is that... I wasn't to blame for Keegan's outburst? I've never seen a young person with so much heat underneath them, and all it takes is one ill placed word to slip from your mouth. Do any of the kids here stand a chance of having a great future, or was my claim also not relevant to them?"
Keegan was well and truly late for her class and glanced through the small window slot on the door, inside and shook her head, "One orange, one apple, one banana...equals, one healthy lunch for me. Simple and easy!"
