Chris smiled kissing her back.

"That's a bit harsh" Keith said


"What will we do till then" Jill smiled

"Well he ran into the middle of a battle, disrupted a military operation, and got men killed." James said. "He's lucky I haven't torn his pompous little head off."

"He's a civilian and a kid" Keith said "but he should be held acountable for what he's done."

"Especially since he thinks he knows everything." James said.

"We all thought we knew it all at that age" Keith said

"We didn't get men killed though, I lost football games he lost lives."

"not saying he should be forgiven or just have his actions written off as youthful inthusiasism but the boy does show some potential" Keith said "just needs someone to guide him."

James sat back. "Yeah and who's gonna guide the person who can't stop saying they're always right?"

"You" Keith suggested "Me, your dad... I don't know."

James shook his head. "Won't be me. I had someone I was mentoring already." He said tossing Jason's dog tags on the table.

Kieth sighed sliding them back to him "I'm sorry I fucked up."

"You didn't fuck up, the kid fucked up by not listening." James said.

"He wouldn't have been there if I had stuck with my gut instead" Keith said "Jason and his unit would still be alive and we would've been gone before it got real bad."

"He snuck on the ship, you had to put someone to guard him." James said.

"I could have locked him in the brig on the ship" Keith said

"And he would have most likely gotten out." James said. "And botched the operation from out command center."

"I know" Keith said "So I took the lesser of two evils. Was I wrong to put so much pressure on Jason then to keep them out of harms way? Should I have done that myself and sent Jason in my place with you? "

James looked at Keith. "Jason was a damn good Marine. He could handle anything you threw at him. Giving him that job was not a mistake. The man threw himself in harm's way for a kid. I'd like to think I would do that knowing the end result like he did."

"I know"

James sighed looking at the dog tags.
