Issue One- Death of a Champion
“Duncan where is my brother” Randor shouted fighting off the soldiers clad in skeleton armor.
“He took off after their leader sometime ago my prince” Duncan said hammering a soldier with his mace.
“Then you are in command here now” Randor said taking off in the direction Duncan had indicated.
Heman leapt from the back of Battle Cat tackling Skeletor off Panthor to the ground. He rolled to his feet drawing his sword.
“Get up you coward”
“Coward” Skeletor sneered getting to his feet “You dare call Skeletor a coward! You are the coward.”
Skeletor charged at Heman, their swords clashing and sending out sparks. Heman pushed Skeletor back and charged at him swinging down at his head. Skeletor brought his sword up to block and kicked Heman in the stomach knocking him back. He split his sword into two blades rushing the much larger man swinging and slashing. Heman deflected one blade to the side grabbing Skeletor’s wrist and pulling him in close to head butting him. Skeletor backed away, his skull mask splitting and falling from his face.
Heman stared at him in shock “Keldor?”
“Yes you dimwitted oaf” Keldor said glaring at him.
“Why brother?”
“Why?’ Skeletor repeated “Because you’re leading us nowhere. I have a vision for Eternia that will bring order.”
“Fear is no way to lead a nation” Heman said
“We’ll see about that when you are dead and I am king” Keldor said charging Heman slashing his chest.
Randor looked up seeing Heman and Skeletor fighting on the cliff in the distance. He took off again running to aid Eternia’s king and protector.
“Where do you think you’re going” Kronis said standing in Randor’s way.
Randor reached for his sword staring at the soldier “Move aside, I must help my brother”
“Don’t think so Randor” Kronis said with a slight smile “Skeletor’s been waiting a long time to get Heman alone and you’re not going to interfere.”
“Then if you will not move I will have to move you” Randor said pulling his blade and rushing Kronis.
Kronis sidestepped Randor shoving him in the back into a tree. Randor moved out of the way just as Kronis brought is sword down cutting a deep gash into the tree. He spun swinging his sword at Kronis who blocked it with his own kicking Randor in the gut.
Heman head butted Skeletor shattering his nose and forcing him to back away before charging at him. Heman went to strike at Skeletor who managed to slice into his arm. He backed away blocking Skeletor’s next blow and kicking him back. Heman rushed forward to strike again but was stopped in his tracks by a blast of energy. Another blast of energy knocked Heman off his feet. Skeletor walked over to him and stomped on his chest pinning him to do the ground getting ready to finish him.
Randor was knocked to the ground by Kronis, distracted by seeing Heman go down. He rolled out of the way of his sword getting up and shattering his jaw with the hilt of his sword. Kronis charged with a silent roar raising his sword to strike at Randor. Randor slashed up cutting off Kronis’ arm and leaving him on the ground to bleed while he took off to save his brother.
Skeletor turned hearing a roar from behind him and saw Battle Cat leaping at him. He fired a blast at the large cat blasting him into oblivion. He had a grin on his face as he turned to finish off Heman only to hear Randor shouting in anger as he came at him. Skeletor turned to take care of this new threat getting slashed across the face. Skeletor heard Randor asking him why he would betray his family backing away and covering his face. Randor went after his younger brother but was cut off by Panthor. He watched as Skeletor rode off being held back by a wall of flame that came from nowhere. Randor finally turned his attention to his older brother when he heard him groan as he struggled to get up.
“Hold on” Randor said coming over to help him up. “You’re going to make it, just hold on a little longer.”
“Randor this is it for me” Heman said weakly. “You’re next in line.”
“No, you’re not going to die here.” Randor said “Duncan has some new devices that can heal you and the Sorceress….”
“Randor stop, they won’t get here in time to help” Heman coughed groaning. “Eternia is yours to protect now, do better than I did. Take care of Adam; make sure he becomes a better man than I.”
“I’ll raise him like my own son” Randor said “and he won’t forget his father.”
“Thank you” Heman said coughing up blood.
Randor clutched his brother close to his chest as he breathed his last. He let out a loud sorrowful cry, his last words to him echoing in his head. He laid Heman on the ground picking up his brother's sword repeating them silently before raising the sword high above his head shouting- “I have the power.”
Lightening struck the battlefield below him sending the army of Skeletor scattering as Duncan and the rest of the Eternian army looked up at Randor knowing their king was dead. They left Skeletor’s army to retreat, lamenting the loss of their champion.
