Meanwhile, on the planet Myrkr...

The view pans into a vast series of tree lines that begin to cover the thick and wide forest ahead. It is revealed that something broke through the dense forestry from above and most likely crash landed.

A Sith space vessel comes into view, landed on its side with the ramp already open and extended. Foot prints imprinted into the ground went from the ship and further into the forest, stopping at a lovely clearing next to a small waterfall that cascades on a pool of water. There, Darren has his hand underneath the clear surface of the water, forcing his pilot's head down as he struggles for his life, flailing his arms around and scraping his fingers into the dirt before finally ceasing to move.

Darren removed his hand from the water and pulled back his hood before gazing up, the slight glimmers of light shining through the trees hitting his eyes.

Ford looked to Jaxie. "I'll be alright." He said with a small smile.

Jarik looked at the Mandalore. "My men will take him to the detention area. We'll hold him there until we reach our destination."

-----

"Temper temper." Désir said standing a few feet away from Darren. Her ship had followed Darren's.

Darren sneered and turned his face the other way. "Best pilot in his class. Tch.", he said and lifted his hood up again. "Go ahead. Gloat."

Désir smirked and walked up beside him. "No I won't do that, seeing Master's anger will be enough for me. However...the Jedi and the traitor need to be dealt with. It will do easier if we work together."

"Bite me, Blondie," Nix says, shooting Neri a sharp glare. Then she nods to Jarik. "Good." She passes off the Mandalore to Jarik's troopers and turns away. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go take a shower after handling that thing. I'll be back to talk with him later. He owes me a lot of credits, after all." Then she walks off.

"I know you will be," Jaxie says. "But are you?"

Tsuni leaves to help with the ship's armaments.

Rowena pulled open a channel to Home One, Admiral Ackbar's flagship. "Admiral, Huntress will lead Wrecker and Needle Squadrons in a surgical strike against the carrier. Have Rogue Squadron cover us."

"Acknowledged, Huntress," Ackbar replied, bulbous eyes staring unflinchingly. "I sure hope you know what you're doing."

"We'll manage. Huntress out," Rowena replied, though inwardly her thoughts were more along the lines of "so do I". She then heard the transmission from the sprightly freighter pilot, and smiled before returning. "Understood, Bandit. Glad to have you with us. Form up with Wrecker Squadron's Y-wings as we get up there; I want you to help cover them. Feel free to bug out if it gets to be too bad; you're under no obligation to stay and fight like we are."

"Oh great, protected by a brat, that's all we need," one Y-wing pilot grumbled.

"I guess we get to babysit... during a bombing run. Great. Glad my will's up to date..."

"Crazy Jedi wolf-woman. She have fleas or somethin'?"

Ena's eyes narrowed in annoyance as the girl piloting the freighter razzed the skeptics; she didn't really pay much attention to what was said. "If you're going to b***h out on us now, get out of the cockpit, because you certainly don't have the balls to sit there. Are we clear?"

Nobody responded at first, so she asked again. "I asked you a question, pilots. If you don't answer it, you can get out and fight on foot!"

"Ma'am, yes ma'am!" nearly every Y-wing pilot answered back, with a few X-wing and A-wing fliers for good measure.

"Good." Rowena replied. "Now get over it. This girl and her father are brave enough to step out there without complaint. You have no room to criticize them. Focus on your jobs, and they'll focus on theirs, and we'll get through this alive. Clear?"

"Ma'am!" the reply this time was much more enthusiastic, and drew a grim smile that showed off her fangs.

Without waiting for more byplay, she opened the throttles on her B-wing and barked out her orders. "All flights, lift off now!"

With that, she punched the sublights to max, and pulled up into the atmosphere, leading nearly fifty other craft up into the space battle raging above. As she climbed she was forced to spin the B-wing through dizzying acrobatic turns and rolls, the gyroscopic cockpit rotating frantically to keep her level as she put massive stress on the airframe.

However, the worst was yet to come as she broke free of the low-level dogfights and leveled Wrecker and Needle squadrons out near the bulk of the Republic fleet. Immediately, she felt the smothering feeling of the Dark Side enveloping everything, weakening them all and destroying morale as surely as even the worst rout. "Battle Meditation," she hissed, instantly finding the source of the miasma in the Sith flagship. Obviously, a powerful Sith Lord was on board, and was turning the tide of battle entirely in their favor. She reached out with the Force, using Cleanse Mind to push the worst of the dampening effects away from her. It worked, but that left the problem of the literal thousands of others still subjected to its effects. As they were, outnumbered, outgunned, and with flagging morale, they would never be able to pull off the surgical strike needed to turn the tide. She had to do something to shake its effects off, if only just for her own troops.

There is a way.

Rowena started, but recognized telepathy when she heard it, and thus focused her thoughts to communicate back. Who are you?

No time, Padawan. You need to focus if you want this to work. Your Empathy is the key. It will enable you to reach out to those under your command, and empower them to fight.

Rowena was conflicted at the strange advice, but she felt what she could of the presence. Hollow, heavy, and strong, but not dark. The hollowness was strange, though... Alright. I'll try it.

She immersed herself in the Force, touching the hearts and minds of all those around her. She felt swelling despair being forced onto the minds of the Republic and Imperial troops, the thirst for victory in the Sith soldiers, and the incredible malevolence of the Sith Lords all rising over her like the tide of the ocean. She struggled against it, but the heavy presence of the one who had spoken earlier settled next to her, like they had clapped a hand to her shoulder. Focus, Padawan. There are seventy-four minds you want to influence. Find them. Seek out each one. Touch their minds and hearts and join your convictions with theirs. That will shake off Angalacon's power.

Despite hundreds of questions popping into her head, not all of them her own, she forged onward. The finicky pilot of the freighter, her steady adoptive father, the nervous A-wing pilots and grimly determined X-wing veterans, then the pilots and co-pilots of the Y-wings. Each one she tapped lightly with her power, projecting an image of security and confidence that she scarcely believed she possessed. Rogue Squadron, too, she embraced, freeing them from the dark hold of Angalacon's Battle Meditation with a greater effort.

Immediately, she felt the difference. And not just in her own squadrons, but the other troops as well, who responded instinctively to the change. They became lighter, more focused, and determined to find the opening to turn the tide of the battle in their favor. It wasn't enough to undo everything; the Sith troops still had increased morale and efficiency, and the majority her side was still downtrodden. But now, they had a chance.

Rowena had the sense of an approving hum from her mysterious benefactor. "Not bad, Padawan. Seems you have a nack for this."

Ena let out a small, shaky breath and summoned a smile, even as another Sith fighter zipped past her. Glad you approve, Master, she projected back.

The voice laughed suddenly, surprised, but not unpleasantly so. It's been a long time since anyone has called me that.

After that display, I think you earned it. The Nalroni settled her armored hands more firmly around the controls, digging into the B-wing with her Mechu-deru to increase her flight skill to its maximum. Will you stay to help me with this?

Another hum, this one considering, and then Rowena felt the phantom sensation of strong hands grasping the controls over her own. Yes, I think I will.

A happier smile now turned Rowena's lips up, and she flicked the comm on to fleet-wide. "Wrecker Squadron, lead the attack. Attack key points along the Hammer of Korriban's hull to dilute overall shield strength. After that, I'll lead Needle Squadron in. Rogues, cover us as we go in. Bandit, you're with the Wreckers. Clear?"

"Affirmative, Huntress!"

"Good." Désir said putting her hands behind her back as she looked around. "This world is quite lovely but we need to moving Darren, Master has begun his invasions."

-----

Darth Angalacon felt his grip on some of the combatants lessen. He searched out and found her, this young Jedi Padawan. He focused more intently, flooding his Battle Meditation outwards with more strength combating her ability.

"Launch our interceptors." He spoke calmly. "Take out the incoming Y-Wings and their escorts."

The Hammer of Korriban had kept it's fighters in reserve but now they flooded outwards in massive swarms coming in against Wrecker, Needle, and Rogue Squadrons.

Another Sith Fleet dropped out of hyperspace entering the fray.

"True, but I don't think Murder Woman's ever all right... or that Tsuni ever isn't," Jaxie remarks at the first statement. She looks up at the ceiling. "I'm as can be expected, I guess. Stuff like this isn't anything we aren't used to. Just a different enemy, this time." She turns back to Ford. "As for the old man... well... I didn't know him as well as you did, but he was a good guy, so... yeah. I'm a little bummed. But it's best to make yourself useful when you're bummed, right? Otherwise it'll turn to anger. And right now doesn't seem like the best time for anger."

Nix makes her way to the bridge for the plan to help Luke and his friend out of a bind. "We ready?"

---

Kit catches the deployment of the enemy fighters and grins to herself. Many of them going after the Wreckers. She grins to herself and flips a switch on the control panel. "Ready, big guy?"

"Can't say my trigger finger isn't itchin'," Cairn responds.

Suddenly the small, old freighter tore off into the spray of oncoming fighters. The enemy ships came up as moving targets on Cairn's view screen. The gunslinger scoffs and pulls back the lever on his targeting blaster. A chamber on the little old freighter opens and out comes a gun that does not, by any means, look like it belongs there. And like that Cairn unleashes, turning space, itself, into a shooting gallery as he fires his targeting blaster at every fighter marker on his view screen. Like rapid-fire the little freighter's sleek new gun fires off, blasting every fighter that'd once been in the ship's way to oblivion.

"Holy hell!" One of the Wrecker pilots says.

A pair of enemy fighters move to attack the Outlaw from behind but Kit casually executes a complex maneuver, sending the ship up and turning it on its side, slowing down so that the two fighters pass it. "Nighty night," Kit says. Then Cairn fires on both of them, clipping their wings and causing them to crash into one another in a fiery heap.

A destroyer keys on the Outlaw but Kit laughs to herself. "If we can knock out this one off, we got us a clear shot outta here." She eyes the ship closes while effortlessly dodging enemy fire, her eyes glowing green, then she grins. "Oh, this'll be a riot," she pulls the freighter up. "You see what I'm going for?"

"Yeah, I see ya," Cairn says, firing on the enemy vessel. The shot punches a small hole through the ship that does seemingly inconsequential damage.

In the cockpit of the Outlaw, Kit snickers and guides the freighter closer to the enemy destroyer before snapping her fingers. Suddenly a violent explosion rings out from where they'd shot the vessel. And from that one explosion come more, rippling all throughout the destroyer until it goes up in a burst of fire. "Good shot," Kit says.

"Good plan," Cairn replies.

"I've come up with a few in my time. How much of a window you think that bought us?"

"Unless they get another one of those over here pronto, all the time in the world. The fighters we can handle easy."

"We can cover 'em a tini bit longer. This is fun," Kit says, turning the Outlaw to swat more fighters out of the stars.

---

Zora observes the older, smaller freighter in awe from the cockpit of the Falcon, mouth agape along with Dorian and Chewie. They all look at Han.

Han looked over them. "What?" He said. "We're leaving anyway."

-----

Ford nodded. "Davik was a good teacher, he helped me learn how to wield a light saber."

Jarik looked over at Nix. "Yes we are, I'd suggest you and the Jedi get ready to receive out guests in the hangar."

-----

Angalacon notices this freighter and he reaches out through the force, while maintaining his Battle Meditation, he begins to quite literally tear the gun emplacement from the ship via the Force.

The Hammer of Korriban begins to light up the enemy fighters with it's many point defense laser emplacements knocking several of the Y-Wings out as they attempted to make their approach.

"Yeah. And now ain't one of 'em. 'Less you want a crazy vengeance quest. I'm sure Murder Girl can show us her ways," Jaxie remarks. "Right now we just gotta turn this funk into some productive energy. Sit around and mope like this and all we are is left with our thoughts." She stands and stretches, looking to Ford. "Ball's in your court, boss. Next move?"

PostSubject: Re: Star Wars: A New Dawn   Sun Jan 03, 2016 2:28 am

Ena stared as Bandit flew off, did their own thing, and blew up an entire Sith destroyer by themselves. She took a rare moment of pure exasperation to sigh aloud. "Why did I expect that to go any other way after I saw the giant blaster cannon and sensed the pilot's Force sensitivity?"

Honestly speaking, that seems like something we should have seen coming, her mysterious benefactor agreed, though they sounded quite amused. Angalacon's pushing back had diverted their focus for a while, but distracted as he was by the freighter, they had managed to fight him off and keep their fledgling Battle Meld stable.

Well, either way, it gave us the opening we need. Ena got on the comms again. "Wreckers, move in!"

The Y-wing bombers soared into position, ion cannons, blasters, and proton torpedoes blazing. All along the Hammer of Korriban's hull explosions and electrical bursts lit up, the shields steadily draining away. With her mechu-deru, Rowena watched them taper slowly, gritting her teeth at every Y-wing lost. "Admiral Ackbar, I'm going to need a favor."

"Name it, Huntress. You got us this far."

"I need a bombardment on the point-defense lines right as the shield weakens. I'll call it out. If Needle Squadron tries to get into the trench without proper cover from emplacements, we'll be annihilated."

"Understood. The Acceptance is moving into position now."

Ena watched as the Gladiator-class destroyer, an old Republic model refit for modern combat, moved in towards the Hammer. She knew that it was likely to take heavy damage, if not be outright destroyed, but there was no way to even damage a cruiser that large without sacrifices; the thing was half the size the SSD Executor had been, and bristled with comparable firepower despite the smaller size.

The shield flickered once, and with her mechu-deru, Ena found their chance. "Fire!" she snapped.

The Acceptance unleashed its full complement of remaining concussion missiles, nearly two-hundred explosive projectiles hurtling towards the point-defense emplacements in two scattered waves. The first wave impacted the shields over their locations, but the second punched through, and as the blasts tore into them, Rowena gave her orders. "Needle Squadron, go! Rogues, provide top cover!"

She rammed the accelerator to the firewall, sublight engines shoving the B-wing forward at more than a thousand k/ph, and zipped in towards the looming cruiser. The remaining defense emplacements opened up even as heavy turbolaser fire slammed into the beleagured Acceptance behind her, but she ducked and weaved, executing a full roll and diving straight down towards the hull as the stars spun crazily outside the cockpit. Ena pulled up at an incredibly flat angle, flying parallel to the Hammer at a distance of less than ten meters from the durasteel plating, too low for even the point defense turrets to track. Only a handful of Needle Squadron managed to follow, cries of "I'm in, I'm in!" lighting up the channel even as the rest of the squadron pulled out and tried to make a second pass or was ripped apart by the withering fire.

"Huntress, be advised! Rogue Squadron can't stop all the Sith fighters; some are getting through!" Rogue Leader suddenly shouted, as several blade-like Sith Interceptors moved into position behind the attacking Needle Squadron.

"Acknowledged," she growled, tension preventing her from speaking more normally. She raised up for a moment to avoid a protruding durasteel beam, then forced her fighter in low again to slip under another one. "Can anyone else-"

"This is Epsilon Leader," a clipped, accented voice came over the channel. "Huntress, my TIE Interceptors will keep the rabble occupied. Finish the job."

Indeed, a complement of a dozen TIE Interceptors, arrow-profile wings poised and blasters flashing, sliced across the Sith fighters' path, leaving explosions in their wake. The fighters dissolved into a bloody melee behind them, leaving Needle Squadron free reign for their attack path.

Angalacon will not take this lying down, the unknown presence noted to her. I will divert his attention. You do what you must.

Thank you, Master. With that, the presence retreated, and Rowena firmed her expression as she soared forward, ready to inflict the blow that would turn the tide, at least temporarily.

Angalacon sat focused on the battle at hand, splitting his attention between is ship and the rest of the battle didn't hamper him, he was the War Master of the Sith Empire for a reason. He reached out into the pilots minds that attacked his ship. Using Dominate Mind he shattered Rowena's Battle Meld and then went on step further and forced the Y-Wings to crash into one another, with the bombers taken down the small snub fighters would be useless.

The main batteries of the Hammer of Korriban trained their sights on the small Acceptance and unloaded with a barrage of turbolasers, ion cannons, and missiles. The Acceptance was torn apart as it's shields went down almost instantly from the larger more powerful vessel's broadside.

-----

Luke ducked and kicked Maeror back before going at him with strong Djem So strikes while Saltatha came in with a flurry of strikes from Ataru. Maeror blocked, parried and avoided each strike with ease. His skill with a lightsaber was incredible. Luke admired the way Maeror fought. Luke backed away for a second letting Saltatha continue his attack as Luke centered himself. He entered the Center of Being and then moved in, Maeror noticed the increase in Luke's focus and the light side flooded into the Jedi Grandmaster.

Maeror smiled under his mask, finally this Skywalker may pose a challenge. Maeror went on the attack smashing through Saltatha's guard and sending the Wookiee across the Chancellor's office.

Luke and Maeror squared off and the two went at it, Djem So against Makashi, red and green clashed again in again as Luke swung with speed and power against Maeror's speed and finesse. Every strike or slash from Luke was met with a strong riposte that put the Grand Master back onto the defensive, Luke called on the Force but his reserves were beginning to empty. Maeror was simply too powerful now, even with the aid of Saltatha, Luke could not best him.

Ena's teeth rattled as Angalacon's power washed over them, battering the Y-wings into uselessness, and shattering her fragile hold over the Battle Meld, flooding the minds of her pilots with discontent and terror. She pushed it aside with an even stronger Cleanse Mind, barely pulling free in time to spin her B-wing around a nearby point-defense blaster built into the wall of the trench. "Kriffin' mother scragging son of a womp-rat," she snarled heatedly under her breath as she wrestled with the controls of her craft for everything she was worth; this was the absolute last thing they needed right now. She had to do something! It couldn't end like this!

Suddenly, the dark influence was muddled as the heavy weight of the mysterious Master's power settled around Angalacon, grappling with him in a powerful struggle. Hurry, Padawan! their voice cried. I cannot hold him for long!

With sudden clarity, the frantic pace of Rowena's thoughts settled into an even calm. Of course. I was so focused on changing things, on doing anything to change the outcome of the hopeless fight that I lost sight of the truth. I don't have to do it. We do.

I am not in this alone.

A Sith Starfighter pulled in for an attack run against her, but Ena sensed it well beforehand, and pulled left suddenly as blaster bolts ripped through the space where she'd been. She turned and jinked back and forth, tighter and faster than the Sith was capable of and wormed her way around and between the defensive turrets. She rolled up and over a turret suddenly, but the soldier behind her couldn't compensate fast enough and slammed into the side of the turbolaser with explosive results. The deep pool of calm enveloped her, and her clarity of mind allowed her to seamlessly pull into the attack line again, now angled perfectly for the run against the fire control center, the heart of any ship's offense. It controlled every sight, every automated turret, every launch tube on board the ship. And that was her target.

I don't need to be stronger, or faster, or more capable. I have enough. I can finish this.

It helped, fortunately, that Darth Angalacon had made three tactical errors.

First, he had focused on the retreating bombers, rather than the couple fighters that had made the journey in.

Second, with his own belief in his superiority, he had not expected to be waylaid from using the Force by another enemy.

Third, the A/SF-01 B-wing was decidedly not a snub fighter.

The fire control center loomed ahead, a roughly fighter-sized metal sphere, covered by its own personal deflector shield. However, Rowena's Mechu-deru let her see the weaknesses and structure of it, to plan the perfect attack.

She fired two of her ion cannons at the shield, the first disrupting the shield, the second weakening it. At the same time, she launched all sixteen advanced proton torpedoes on board, hammering through the shield and the metal armor around the core, exposing it to her heavy blaster cannons. However, the fire control system had a backup relay that would be nearly impossible to destroy. Unfortunately for the Sith... it was controlled electronically. As such, Ena fired her last ion cannon after her blaster shots impacted, the silvery bolt sliding into the exposed circuits and frying the relay, rendering any chance of an electronic changeover impossible.

In only a handful of seconds, she had reduced the offensive capability of the ship to nearly zero, though it could be corrected, given enough time for a manual override.

Ena pulled up sharply, buzzing the command tower and then rocketing back towards the Republic fleet, to cheers and adulation over the comm. "Admiral Ackbar, I suggest we stage a large-scale evacuation of Republic troops from Coruscant," she said, voice exhausted. Her whole body was shaking from the intensity of that last run. "The damage I inflicted will only slow the Sith fleet down for perhaps twenty minutes. It won't be enough for us to win, and Darth Angalacon will not fall for that again."

"Are you certain, Huntress? If we can capitalize on it-"

"The cruiser's shields are back up, in full," she reminded him tiredly, "and Angalacon isn't stupid. Even on the surface, we're being overwhelmed. They have numbers. Power. Morale. Even the element of surprise was on their side. As it stands, our chances for victory are single-digit percentages if even that much. If we hold the line and then retreat, the Republic can live to fight another day."

Her piece said, Rowena flew towards the hanger of Home One, though the foreboding feeling at her back sent chills down her spine.
