PostSubject: New Gen OTD   Mon Aug 15, 2011 10:35 am

The first batman was a knight named Sir Arthur Wayne during the middle ages and his squire, Robert Kane, served as the first robin though at the time they went by Bat Knight and Squire Robin until Robert achieved knighthood and he changed his name to Falcon Knight. The second Batman was Arthur's son and from this point on the mantle of Batman was passed from father to son throughout the ages with the son usually serving as Robin before taking over for his father.
In the 50's and 60's Thomas Wayne protected Gotham as Batman alongside his wife, Martha (Kane) Wayne, who followed in the footsteps of her great grandmother as Batwoman. The two had a son, Bruce, who would soon be joining them as Robin. Unfortunately this did not happen due to their murders at the hand of Joe Chill, a hit man hired by the mob bosses of Gotham to take out the Wayne's. In their civilian life Thomas and Martha were causing the mobs all kinds of trouble with their charities, foundations, and other projects that gave the people of Gotham hope that their city could become something other than a crime city while as Batman and Batwoman the two constantly interfered with mob business. The bosses found out that the Wayne's were connected to the Bat's and hoped that by killing them they'd be rid of the Bat's for good. Bruce's being there to witness his parent's murder was a mistake, one that would cost the bosses later in their lives.
Bruce was a reclusive kid the first few years after his parent's death that rarely socialized with anyone other than Alfred. Then one day he seemed happier and more social. The reason for this change was he finally realized what he had to do- become a greater crime fighter than Batman or Batwoman (whom he blamed for his parents death) ever was. To accomplish this he traveled the world learning everything he thought might help him. When he returned he was ready to start his career and went out at night in a ski mask taking down criminals. He eventually came to the conclusion that he needed something more, something that would not only make the criminals he brought down afraid of him but frighten others who would dare consider committing a crime in his city. He finds that something when he hears a noise in his parent's room, which he hasn't been in since their deaths, and sees a bat trying to get out. Bruce is reminded of the time he fell into a cave as a kid and was scared by the bats inside. As he lets the bat out he catches a glimpse of a journal and decides to read through it discovering the truth about his parents. When he questions Alfred about it he learns the truth of the Batman Legacy and decides to carry on the family tradition.
After fighting crime on his own for so long Bruce decides to take on a young partner- Dick Grayson. He took the young circus star in after his parent's were killed for not going along with the mob. Dick not only becomes his trusted partner in fighting crime but part of his family when Bruce adopts him as his son. It is not long before the two are joined by Batwoman and eventually Bat-Girl in their war against crime. Shortly after the retirement of Batwoman and Bat-Girl a new Batgirl joins them. At 21 Dick has decided it’s time for him to leave Bruce and start his own career as a hero, he takes on the name Nightwing and relocates to Bludhaven.
Bruce takes on Jason Todd, a former circus acrobat like Dick that had been living on the streets for the last few years as Robin. Jason was more aggressive than Dick as Robin and would often rush ahead of Bruce into situations, sometimes ruining weeks of careful planning. Jason served as Robin for two years before being beaten to death by Joker. He returned a few months later having been revived as a result of a cataclysmic event caused by an alternate version of Superboy. It would take Bruce a year before he took on a new Robin, but only after Tim Drake had deduced Batman’s true identity and convinced Bruce that Batman needs a Robin.
In that year Jason regained his memories with the help of Talia Al Ghul, daughter of Ra’s Al Ghul, one of Batman’s greatest foes. He learned that his death had gone un-avenged and set out to get revenge against Bruce. To do this he took on the name of Red Hood starting his career as a villain. After Bruce’s death the mantle of Batman became open and Tim briefly took over the role before having it taken from him by Jason. After a grueling battle Dick claims the role of Batman from Jason who returns to going by the Red Hood
Believed that Batman must always have a Robin, Dick offers the mantle to Damien who gladly takes it believing it is a title that should have been his to begin with as the true son of Bruce while Tim starts calling himself Red Robin and sets out to prove that Bruce isn’t dead. Eventually Tim is proven right when Bruce returns from the time stream in which he was trapped in time to stop Dr. Hurt from further damaging his family name. Bruce chose to let Dick continue as Batman believing there was room and need in the world for more than one. Bruce also starts Batman Incorporated and uses this to establish a program to ensure there would always be a Wayne to serve as Batman. Dick would eventually give up as Batman and return to going by Nightwing leaving Bruce to carry on as the only Batman in Gotham
Years later Bruce would finally give up the cape and cowl passing the title once more to Dick. Dick would pass the mantel to Damien five years later to raise his family with Barbara, who eventually takes over her father’s role of commissioner in the GCPD. Some time in the future, during a battle with Two Face Two, Damien rescues a young Terry McGinnis (a descendant of Bruce thanks to the program he established years earlier), who he later mentors as the new Batman. Terry would retire as the last Batman.

The first Batwoman was a woman named Evelyn Kane that lived during the 19th century. She fought predominantly for the woman's suffrage movement in the U.S., coming into conflict with the Batman of that day as much as she did help him. After the passing of the 19th amendment she continued to fight for the underprivileged.
Years later her great granddaughter, Martha Wayne would take up the mantle of Batwoman and fight crime alongside her husband. Her career was cut short when she was murdered outside a theater. Batwoman would not die with her though as years later a distant cousin of hers, Catherine Kane, would take up the mantle and help Batman and Robin fight crime in Gotham. Like Batman, Batwoman would take on a young sidekick, her niece Bette (Betty) Kane, the first Bat-Girl. The two would eventually retire, Catherine because she believed the boys could handle it without her and Bette because her crime fighting was interfering with her social life. Bette would later try her hand at being a hero again as Flamebird partnering up with Dick from time to time
While Batwoman would not be seen again for many years there were several more who took on the mantle of Batgirl. The second Batgirl was the daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon. She fought along Batman and Robin for years before being shot and paralyzed by Joker. Not letting this slow her down she started going by the name Oracle and created Birds of Prey. As Oracle she provided Batman with information and tech support as well as serving as the mentor to Stephanie Brown.
The third Batgirl was Helena Bertenelli who was eventually forced to abandon the mantle by Batman and returned to her former name of Huntress. Following her was the daughter of assassin David Cain who gained the approval of both Barbara and Bruce to carry on as Batgirl. She would eventually give up her role of Batgirl and become head of the League of Assassins. Upon Bruce's 'death' she handed her title over to Stephanie Brown adopting a new title- Black Bat.
Stephanie Brown, the fourth person to be Batgirl, started out as the heroine Spoiler and fought to thwart her father the Cluemaster. As Spoiler she developed a relationship with Robin (Tim Drake) and fought alongside him, Batman and Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) from time to time before becoming the new Robin when Tim took a leave from the role. She is the second Robin to die though her death was later revealed to have been faked. She returned later as Spoiler once more connecting with Tim and Batman fighting crime. She would be given the mantle of Batgirl by her predecessor on orders from Bruce and as Batgirl she would be mentored by Barbara and assisted by Barbara’s protégée- Proxy, the daughter of the villain Calculator.
The second woman to claim the title of Batwoman was a distant relative of Catherine Kane, Kate Kane. Unlike her predecessor she chose not to work alongside Batman too often. She did work with Oracle on occasion and more frequently with the Question. She would eventually retire from crime fighting and allow Stephanie to assume the role as Batwoman. Stephanie would retire as both the last person to be known as Batgirl and Batwoman.

Over the years stories of the Bat Family (Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Red Robin, Batgirl, and Batwoman) have become urban legends that few believe in. A museum dedicated to keeping the memory of Gotham City’s greatest protector alive has been built but many believe the objects inside linked to the legend are not real.

Awesome, exactly what I had in mind, and kinda like an episode of Charmed where the manor becomes a museum after the sisters have died in the future. My character could be a tour guide but using the information about Batman to copy and aid people out in the community?

how would she use the information about Batman to help the community. most of them don't exactly believe the stories. But her working at the museum works.

PostSubject: Re: New Gen OTD   Wed Aug 17, 2011 12:49 am

Until I find something cooler to call it, I'm gonna go with the Ring of Infinity. Anyway, here's the general information regarding it.

The Oath
In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night
Villains All Beware My Might
Protect All Worlds From Evil's Sight
By My Hand All, LANTERNS UNITE!

Embelm
The Emblem Does Not Appear On Angie's Costume, However It Is On The Ring

Ring's Origins: The Rings was forged many years ago when all Lantern Corps united to stop a common threat. The Living Star known only as R'Hul-Kolta, threatened the entire universe with a supernova effect that spanned its entire galaxy. With the common knowledge that if one galaxy falls, then all those adjacent to it will then be eliminated, they predicted all of their universe's reality would, in fact, be destroyed. All 9 corps united to maintain the situation and the catastrophe was avoided. However, the excess energies of each Lantern Ring merged into a massive cosmic storm. Nine brave lanterns used what energy remained of them to banish the storm into an alternate dimension of total nothingness. When they died, their rings were pulled into the same dimension. The rings absorbed the energies within the storm and over time they merged together into one ring. Only a few years later, the Guardians of Oa detected a massive energy source that created a rift in space and time itself. It was the ring. It had absorbed so much power from the storm that it tore through reality and appeared within their dimension, leaving the storm. A Green Lantern was sent to retrieve it and did return with it. The Guardians held on to the ring until they were able to decide what to do with it. Then, in a time of great peril to Oa when a Yellow Ring empowered Darkseid threatened, it was determined after watching him sweep aside respective Lantern Corps that only one ring left could stop him. The Infinity Ring was cast out into the universe. Darkseid had planned this however. Having known the Guardians would cast out the golden ring, he pursued it. Luckily, the ring found its master in a Martian who defeated Darkseid in battle. Deemed worthy, he was allowed to keep the ring. However, a threat against his family later forced him to remove it to a villainous martian. But he knew that the ring would reject him, having discovered over his years with it that the ring could only be worn by one it deemed worthy itself. The martian then sacrificed his own life in defeating the adversary that threatened his family. Pleased by his actions, the ring, proving its sentience, transformed him into Infinity, the Entity of Emotion itself. With his new powers, he created the Infinity Battery then terminated the ring's eternal charge, granting it an Oath so that only those the ring deemed worthy would know it and those who found a way to put it on would never be able to use it. He then sealed himself within the battery, providing the battery with an eternal charge and following the ring wherever it may go. To this day there is only one Infinity Lantern Ring and there have only been two bearers, the original aside. The current is Angelica Foster, formerly known as Bat-Girl.

Side-Notes: Because the Ring Represents All 9 Colors, All negative side-effects of each individual ring are neutralized. However, should one be overly influenced on an emotional level, the ring tends to amplify that emotion ten fold. Also, if the emotions of the wearer are not constantly in check, the ring can begin to act similarly to a symbiote.

Green Lanterns:

Violet Lanterns:

Red Lanterns:

Orange Lanterns:

Blue Lanterns:

Indigo Lanterns:

Yellow Lanterns:

Black Lanterns:

White Lanterns:

red robin would be cool.

so, to answer tange's question from the lounge- Terry was the last known direct decendant of Bruce even though Bruce himself didn't father him. The circumstances of Terry being a Wayne is simple complex, When he started Batman Inc he started a program that would ensure there would always be a Wayne to be Batman. There are a few ideas to how he does this, the most obvious being he froze his sperm. The other option(s) is he preserved his dna in some way and had some kind of system established to periodically deliver his dna to an indvidual.
It can be assumed that Damien knew Terry was his biological brother (even though he's like way younger) and when he passed on the Batman mantle to him he passed on everything that comes with being a Wayne (the company, the money, Batman, etc.). Where it went after that well, maybe Terry had some children and passed it on to them (but not the title of Batman for some reason that could be explored at a later time in the rpg)

that'd be fine. Really just kind of trying to do a batman rpg without there actually being a batman in it, just people inspired by his legend.

How about Mary was a niece of Terry and Terry left the mansion to her and some siblings? Or did he have kids?

By now Terry would be in his 80's, I focused more on the careers of them behind the mask than on thier personal lives (with the exception of Dick and Barbara). I never mentioned the personal lives of Damien, Tim, Cassandra or Terry. If you want to have a character be the son/daughter/grandaughter/grandson of any of them that's up to you.

I'm still deciding on whether Courtney will be linked personally, but right now I'm satisfied with her having an obsession over the whole legacy. She's finding artefacts that people are calling fake but she's dead-set determined to have it declared the real thing.

Well I have two more characters on me that I wasn't going to use til later. I could probably link one of them to Red Robin somehow. What do you have on Red Robin so far?

Well, not a lot, his bio isn't finished. I want him to be a guy who picked up the mantle through family ties somehow, although while raised outside of the US. I'm thinking about having him linked to somebody just to give him a little more backstory.

Ah. Well I have one more character I could possibly relate him to. Either her or he could relate to Bat-Girl by name if nothing else.

Bat-Girl might work. Actually, Red Robin could just have arrived to the city and somehow be related to Bat-Girl, either unknowingly until later or right away. It would be interesting to see them interact overall considering the somewhat different ideals of Justice they both have. Gah, too many ideas.

Yeah there are so many possibilities of linking characters...at least the ones actually in some way related to Batman, Robin, Bat-Girl, and other figures of the "legend". I named my new character Hush after that 2002-2003 arc. That was actually a good arc really. Most Batman arcs to me seem to just milk the fact that he has most of the good villains in DC but that arc was really pretty sweet.

Alright, short and simple answer.

Well, I'm guessing I could make Red Robin a distant cousin or a brother/half brother to Angelica.

Yeah that could work. I might make some sort of arc where she's got some sort of Blood Relation to Black Mask. It'd be fun to mess with her head.

She's already pretty messed up so that would be an interesting conflict. Anyway, I think I'm done with his bio.

Yeah, just read it. I can see a relation there. I only have two characters not really "inspired" by the Batman legend itself. So it'd be a bit more difficult to find anything to relate them to aside from Hush's obsession with find Black Mask...though when she finds him, I imagine she wouldn't have any clue what to do with him haha. "Well, you found me...now what?" "...Crap I never thought about what I was going to do after I found you...um..."
